ATLANTA, GA – The Southeastern Conference Championship game, a fixture in Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium, may soon be seeking a new home. Sources indicate that the University of Texas, a newcomer to the SEC this year, has expressed concerns about the stadium’s sideline space, specifically regarding their inability to accommodate their beloved mascot, Bevo, at the annual title game.
According to sources within the SEC, Texas officials believe the sidelines are insufficient for comfortably and safely housing the longhorn steer. This has ignited a chain of events that could significantly alter the championship game's landscape.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey addressed the situation in a released statement, stating, "The University of Texas is the most valuable brand in the SEC, so we have to keep them happy." While Sankey didn’t directly confirm Bevo's sideline concerns as the primary driver, the statement underscored the importance of accommodating the Longhorns.
