"The safety of the American public is our top priority,"

Washington D.C. - A nationwide ban on kratom has been enacted, effective immediately, by the federal government. The ban encompasses all kratom products, including powders, capsules, teas, and extracts. The move, announced late yesterday by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), marks a significant shift in the government's stance on the controversial substance.

Kratom, derived from a tree native to Southeast Asia, has been marketed as a natural remedy for pain relief, anxiety, and even opioid withdrawal. However, health officials have raised concerns about its potential for addiction and serious side effects, including seizures, liver damage, and respiratory depression. The FDA has previously issued warnings about kratom products, but this is the first time the substance has been completely outlawed at the federal level.

"The safety of the American public is our top priority," stated FDA Commissioner Robert Califf in a press release. "We have seen a disturbing rise in reports of kratom-related adverse events, and the scientific evidence clearly demonstrates the potential for significant harm. This ban is necessary to protect consumers from a dangerous substance."
